What is a backset?
The backset is the distance from the edge of the door to the center of the hole in you door though which the handles are fixed.
Or, on a latch the backset is the measurements from the edge of the latch to the center of the spindle hole. As shown below (45mm backset)
There are two common backsets for residential door latches: 60mm and 70mm
There are a few less common backset sizes for residential latches: 45mm, 95mm 127mm There are a few other common backset sizes for Residential mortice lock which are: 30mm, 35mm, 40mm and 60mm.
What is a door stile?
A door is made up of two Stiles which are the vertical member of the frame on either side connected by the top and bottom members which are called rails.
We need to know what your door stile measurement is so as to know whether the lock or latch will fit into your door stile. Measureing from the edge of your door to the first groove, if you have grooved door or to the edge of the glass, if you have a door with glass panels will help us ensure you are getting the hardware that will work for you .
Telling us your door stile measurements also helps us to make sure your hardware will be centered.
What is a Rebate?
A Rebate is a step shaped reduction or recess made at the edge of a door, made to fit into a secondary door or a stepped jamb, as in the diagram below.
We have many types of rebate kits to suit locks being used in this application.
